The Loyalty Partnership That Lets You Sip Your Way To Cheaper Delta Flights

View published article on Explore.

Miles and coffee go together like peanut butter and jelly — some things are just better, together.

If you haven’t already linked your Delta SkyMiles and Starbucks Rewards, you’re missing out on free miles every time you purchase a cup of coffee. Simply link your accounts and you can earn one Delta mile for every $1 you spend at Starbucks on eligible purchases like beverages, drinks, and merchandise.

There’s a few other perks worth noting. As of 2024, Diamond SkyMiles and Platinum SkyMiles members will be able to use Delta Choice Benefits to get 4,000 Starbucks Stars. On days when you have a scheduled flight with Delta, you can also earn double Starbucks Stars on each order you make that day. Plus, every so often, you’ll be eligible for additional bonuses, like earning extra miles when you purchase Starbucks goods during a certain timeframe.

Whatever miles you earn are yours to keep, as Delta miles never expire. If this strategic partnership has you thinking about eating Starbucks three meals a day, you’re not the only one — @ravewithjen and other fans will see you there.

@ravewithjen Bout to be on a first name basis with my local @starbucks baristas. 😂 Already got my 500 free miles. Thanks @delta 😌 #greenscreen #starbucks #deltaairlines #deltastarbucks ♬ original sound - rave with jen ✨

How to earn free miles for coffee

To start earning miles and stars, enroll in a Delta SkyMiles account on the airline’s website. Next up, download the Starbucks app on your phone and enroll in the Starbucks Rewards program.

Now all you have to do is link the two on the joint Delta Starbucks website. Enter your first name, last name, Delta SkyMiles info, and Starbucks login credentials. That’s it! Now, each time you make a mobile order or scan your app in-person at Starbucks, you’ll automatically earn miles for your Delta SkyMiles account.

You can keep track of your SkyMiles in your Delta account, which may take up to 10 business days to show up. Your Starbucks Stars can be found in your Starbucks app, which should update within two days after your last purchase.

When you’re ready to book a getaway, make sure your flight is scheduled at least 48 hours after you purchase it, that way you’ll be eligible for a Delta Travel Day to earn double Starbucks Stars.

If it just so happens that you’re traveling on Delta while there’s already a Double Stars day in place, you’re in luck. Say hello to triple stars. Your morning coffee just got a whole lot better.
